Being from the south, I love good country cooking! One of my earliest memories is of food, naturally! I am not sure how old I was, I think about 2 years old, my brother was still living at home and he is 15 years older than me. I remember my brother sitting on the couch eating something out of a bowl. I climbed up and asked him what he was eating. I don’t remember him saying anything, just putting a spoonful of what he was eating in my mouth. Probably just to shut me up! lol
Anyway, I climbed down, went to the kitchen and told my mother that I wanted what he was eating. She fixed me a bowl of black eyed peas with mayonnaise mixed in and some cornbread! I have been eating them that way ever since that day. Don’t knock it until you try it! Of course the mayonnaise has to be Blue Plate! There are several in our family that eat our peas that way; me, my brother and one of my cousins just to name a few. I wish I had a bowl right now!
If you want a great recipe for your black eyed peas, Ruby Williams, from Bogalusa, Louisiana has a great one, Black Eyed Peas with Bacon. (Just click on the recipe name or the photo below to learn more about this recipe.)
