As Halloween approaches, I think back to my favorite treats from childhood. We lived on a farm so “Trick or Treating” was a little more involved than just walking down a sidewalk to your neighbor’s house. Our neighbors were my cousins and grandparents.
Mom piled me, along with my brothers and sisters, into our Bonneville (no mini-van for us)! She would drive us around to family and neighbors (some several miles away) to show off our costumes and collect candy along the way.
As we got a little older, we realized our friends who lived in town were bringing home bigger bags of candy, since they could reach more houses closer together. Eventually, we talked Mom into taking us to town to make the rounds. Ah – memories!
Our last stop during our Halloween adventures was always at a cousin’s house. She prepared homemade popcorn balls for each of us kids. Despite our overflowing bags of candy, this remained our favorite treat.
So, if you have some little goblins in your family and want to treat them to a special homemade snack, I suggest these Peanut Butter Popcorn Balls. This isn’t the exact recipe my cousin used, but I love the addition of the peanut butter and peanuts in the mix.
Happy Cooking! And, Happy Halloween!
