Great food is the perfect starting point in bringing friends together for fun and fellowship. For the last 17 years a group of friends and I have enjoyed having tea parties together. We don’t all live in the same town but if one of us plans a tea party we all converge on the designated location. In the fall we are at my home and in the spring I do the tea party in the rose gardens of a local garden center and park. No matter where we choose to have tea one thing is constant, great food is always a highlight of our time together.
There are several recipes that we use every time we are together, our common recipe collection starts with scones, Devonshire cream (which some may know as clotted cream) and lemon curd. We make everything from scratch and no matter how many times we have enjoyed these tea party treats we always oooh and aahh like they are brand new. This year I added one of our fall show recipes, Spinach, Brie and Bacon Mini Quiche- they were a hit and a perfect addition to our menu.
One thing that I love about cooking is the consistence of a familiar recipe and the creative license to add a new twist. Finding a new recipe that is worthy of joining the recipe box with my cherished favorites is a delight. I have been cooking from the new Best Loved Recipe Cookbook and I have already added new favorites to my box. By the time I cook my way through the top 100 recipes of all times that are part of this fabulous book I may need a new recipe box!
